Sometimes … Life

Sometimes, life just makes you laugh.

Last Monday, I ordered more hair putty. I’ve only found the kind I use in CVS, but Amazon carries it, and with Prime, it could arrive on Wednesday. Since I only had enough for another day or two … I’d be all good.

But when I tried to reorder, it wasn’t available from that seller anymore. Still, I needed hair putty, so picked a different seller randomly. They offered a 3-pack, so I placed the order.

On Wednesday morning, I realized I would run out of hair putty on Thursday. No worries, I thought. My order is arriving today. It’ll be fine.

But sometimes, life is just waiting to throw something totally unexpected your way.

The Mix-Up

The package arrived just after lunch along with two other boxes. Yay! I opened the box and pulled out the white-bagged product labeled clearly with my hair putty’s full description. And there were definitely three boxes inside the opaque bag. Except … they weren’t the same size or shape as my hair putty usually is. Hmmmm…

I sliced open the top of the bag to discover that, instead of a 3-pack of hair putty, I’d been shipped three boxes of off-brand personal lubricant … in cranberry flavor.

What?!?

I was both slightly amused and frantic. CVS is a half hour away, and I’d already been to town (with 4 kids … at the grocery store … on the day before Thanksgiving. Yikes.). We were planning to leave that afternoon for my parents’ house until Friday, and I was going to run out of hair putty the next day. Gah!!!

Eric got home, and I vented my problem to him. He had a slightly different take on it:

Me: “I don’t have time to go get more before we leave, and I’m going to run out tomorrow!”

Eric: “Well, just imagine how the other person’s weekend is going to go…”

Thanks, babe.

Sometimes … Life

Anyway, I completed a return/reorder request on Amazon and printed out the return label. They couldn’t promise delivery until today, but we drove just a bit out of our way to a CVS as we headed to my parents’ house, and I got another container of hair putty. That would get me through the crisis and then I’d be set until the replacement order arrived. Problem solved! I even got an email that my reorder shipped on Wednesday. Woohoo.

Of course, we had a lovely Thanksgiving with my family and headed home on Friday. Midday on Saturday, much to my surprise, a delivery truck pulled in with my shipment.

I opened the box and pulled out an opaque white bag labeled clearly with my hair putty’s full description. And containing three boxes of off-brand personal lubricant … in cranberry flavor.

At this point, I burst out laughing and gave up. I cancelled the order for a refund and printed another return label. I packed up the boxes and dropped both of them off at the UPS store today. Thankfully, the hair putty I bought will cover me for most of a month and then I’ll try again.

Because sometimes, life just won’t work out the way we intend. And sometimes … that’s totally okay.
