Timmy Starts School

It’s been a busy few weeks (thus my absence from the blog) filled with hosting a wedding in our backyard and surviving our first year at the fair. And I’ll have more to say about both of those events later this week.

But today, the most significant story I can tell you is about how my Timmy Jack started Kindergarten.

A couple of weeks ago, our church celebrated and prayed over our newest kindergarteners. They even got a shirt to commemorate the exciting change.

The big kids started back last Thursday, so we got our  yearly start-of-school picture.

On Friday morning, he had an assessment meeting with his teacher, Mrs. Cullins, whom we love-love-love already. And then we were into wedding details for days. Our school district does a staggered start for kindergarten, so Timmy got Monday off. But today. Today was his day. And he was beyond excited.

He came down while I was still on my treadmill, before 7 a.m., announcing that he’d gotten his shoes on the right way all by himself! “You did? Good job, Buddy! I guess you’re all ready for Kindergarten if you can do that.” Grinning to both ears, he said, “Yep. Of course I am!” And he jumped down the rest of the stairs. He and Megan ate breakfast together and made their lunches. They did all their chores, and he was outside, playing on the driveway with his backpack already on, by 7:30 this morning.

Finally, it was 8 a.m., and we could start up the hill to the bus. He was far ahead of me the entire way.

Then we met our neighbor Wyatt to wait the last few minutes for his exciting first-time bus ride to school

The big kids helped him onto the bus and into a seat. And then, my suddenly-big littlest crazy was on his way.

Happy first day of school, Timmy Jack!
